Source standards
We prefer primary sources: HUD, USAGov, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Department of Veterans Affairs, state and local agencies, courts, and program administrators. Credible nonprofit directories may supplement—but not replace—official eligibility and application rules.
Writing and review
The site publishes under the Housing Assistance Info organization name. Guides should connect a practical next step to a primary source and explain where eligibility, funding, or law varies. No named professional review or individual case assessment is represented. A source list helps readers verify a claim; it does not certify every sentence as current.
Dates and updates
A guide’s updated date records a substantive content or source change. Specific update notes identify the work completed; a source-link repair is distinguished from a rules correction. Formatting and search-description edits alone do not advance that date. Program notices, court orders, funding, and local availability can change after publication. Check the source’s effective date and the administering agency before acting.
Independence and advertising
Advertising may fund the site. Advertisers do not approve articles or receive favorable coverage. We do not sell access to benefit applications, vouchers, or waiting lists. Advertising is visually and operationally separate from editorial work.
Use of automated tools
AI-assisted tools are used for research support, drafting, editing, and technical checks. Official documents and program administrators are the evidence for rules; generated text is not evidence. Automated link and accessibility checks have limits: a reachable page may be outdated, and a blocked government page may still be valid. Material corrections are documented on the affected guide.
Corrections
Substantive errors are corrected as quickly as practical. See our corrections policy to report a problem.
